Native to Indonesia, the yellowish or greenish pumpkin-shaped fruit of Garcinia Cambogia is also grown in parts of Asia, India and Africa. It is sometimes called a brindleberry as well as Goraka or Kattcha puli more locally. Garcinia Cambogia Extract is obtained from the rind of the fruit. The rind of the fruit is peeled, dried and then concentrated for use. Though Garcinia Cambogia Extract is fairly new to the supplement world it has been used for centuries and belongs to the category of sour flavors in traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine. Such flavors are said to induce digestion and that is why it has been used as a spice in soups and curries for centuries. More concentrated amounts of the rind have been used as purgatives and also serve as a satiating agent, generally reducing appetite.
